In 2003, Eastern Shore Global Missions began our Urban Immersion program - a mission that gives young people the challenge of working in the mission field without the fear of being far from home.  Participants learn valuable mission skills like working as a team, interacting with people from different backgrounds, and discovering their God given gifts through serving others.

Due to the success of our first trip, the DC Urban Immersion became an annual event.  We've developed this program specifically for 6th - 9th grade students to gain an introduction to missionary work.  College students often participate to hone their leadership skills and to learn to share their love of Christ with others.  It's our hope that participants will gain an appreciation of mission work, and that through their participation that they will be prepared for the longer, more distant mission trips that are available to High School and College students.

Our work in DC involves preparing and serving meals to the homeless, and engaging them in conversations while we eat together.  We also sort and pack food at the food bank, or prepare school supplies at World Vision.  We may also deliver meals to the home bound, including those with AIDS with Food & Friends.

While many of our activities may vary from year to year, we always work in the afternoon with the children of Anacostia who attend one of the many after school programs.
